Rosalie, 2025 by Dafne Berg
48" x 60" in. Collage made with acrylics, watercolors, india ink and paper on canvas.
Set against a deep black background, this painting is a tribute to my sister, Rosalie. Rose blooms sweep across the canvas as if carried by wind, appearing in many different sizes, some distant and some close, creating a sense of motion, depth, and passage. The roses are both her namesake and her symbol, embodying strength, luminosity, and resilience.
She has always reminded me to search for my own inner strength and beauty, and to hold onto joy even when circumstances shift. Inspired by autumn winds and by her steady presence in my life, the layered surface of acrylic, paper, and India ink reflects both movement and endurance. At its core, this work is about being carried forward by change, and about the unwavering presence of someone who reminds me to return to my joyful self and to trust my own inner strength, no matter where the winds may take me.
